SOUTH AFRICA
Africa Judges and Jurists Forum (AJJF), with support from the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA) conducted a study aimed at establishing the impact of the novel corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic on the administration of justice by the courts in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique and Botswana. These are the countries within the SADC region where AJJF has an ongoing project to promote the rule of law and access to justice. The COVID-19 pandemic is likely to continue until such a time when the vaccine or some kind of an effective treatment is made accessible to all.
This study was conducted in order to identify the challenges and make recommendations on measures which can be introduced in the short-term period, in order to return the courts to full scale operations even as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
