PANALISTS BIOS
Dr Mercy Deche is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, Lectruer, University of Nairobi and member of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ). She worked with the Judicial Service Commission of Kenya as a Commissioner and Vice-Chairperson. As a former Vice Chairperson, she was involved with making policy at the highest level with regards to Kenya Judiciary and the Judicial System in Kenya and East Africa. Dr Deche was Chairperson of the Judicial Service Commission’s Committee on Independence and Accountability, responsible for collecting stakeholder’s feedback to enhance the Commonwealth Mandate execution.
Professor Satterthwaite is an International human rights scholar and practitioner with decades of experience in the field. She is the current UN Special Rapporteur on Independent of Judges and Lawyers. She is alsoa Professor of Clinical Law at New York University School of Law, where she directs the Global Justice Clinic and serves as a faculty director of the Robert and Helen Bernstein Institute for Human Rights and Global Justice. She has worked with individuals and communities seeking to realize their rights around the world, including countries in East Africa. She has worked with numerous UN Agencies and Special Rapporteur and has served on the boards of several human rights organizations
Retired Chief Justice Willy Mutunga was Kenyan’s Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court from 2011- 2016.He served as Secretary General of the Commonwealth Special Envoy to the Maldives. Mutunga is also a distinguished Scholar- in Residence at the Leitner Centre for International Law and Justice (Fordham Law School, New York City) He worked on the implementation of the progressive 2010 Kenyan Constitution. Mutunga is well known for his fight against corruption in the Judiciary and Kenya as a whole. In 2021, he was appointed Adjunct Professor of International Law School, University of Kabarak.
Faith Mony Odhiambo is a distinguished Advocate. She is currently practicing at Ombok & Owuor Advocates LLP, Law lecturer at University of Nairobi, and the Vice-President of the Law Society of Kenya. Her involvement in law extends beyond the classroom and courtroom. She has played a pivotal role in various legal organization, including FIDA-Kenya, exemplifying her commitment to the profession. Her tenure as a council member and board secretary for FIDA-Kenya, and her impactful service as the Nairobi Representative and Vice President of the Law Society of Kenya, highlights her leadership capabilities and her dedication to the welfare of the legal community.
