AJJF to Host Webinar on Climate Justice, Community Rights and Water Security

The Africa Judges and Jurists Forum (AJJF) will convene a webinar on 13 October 2026 to examine the growing intersection between climate justice, community rights and water security in Africa.

Under the theme “Climate Justice, Community Rights and Water Security: Lessons from South Africa’s Wild Coast Judgment,” the webinar will draw lessons from the Wild Coast judgment and explore its significance for environmental justice, the protection of communities and the role of courts in addressing emerging climate-related challenges.

The discussion will feature a keynote address by Dr. Justice Mavedzenge of AJJF, with contributions from Bathandwa Hlanjwa of the Foundation for Human Rights Initiative, Keamogetse Motsage of ICJ-Kenya, Xoliswa Mthunzi of the Foundation for Human Rights Initiative, and Jaika Charles of the Legal Resources Foundation Zimbabwe. Cynthia Muchena of AJJF will moderate the discussion.

The webinar will provide a platform for judges, jurists, legal practitioners, civil society actors and environmental and human rights advocates to consider how law and judicial processes can contribute to protecting communities and advancing climate and environmental justice across Africa.

The event will take place online from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM SAST / 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM EAT.

AJJF gratefully acknowledges the support of the Norwegian Agency for Exchange Cooperation (Norec), whose sponsorship makes this programme possible and supports regional knowledge exchange and cooperation on justice and human rights.
