On 14 August 2025 the AJJF Coordinated the Norec Project Partners meeting which was hosted by the Legal Resources Foundation in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Since its inception, the AJJF coordinated, Norec funded Exchange Programme has provided a unique platform for partner institutions across East and Southern Africa to exchange knowledge, build institutional capacity, and deepen cross-border collaboration. The 4 organisations participating in exchanging among themselves young legal professionals above 18 years and below 35 years of age to learn through exchange are the ICJ Kenya, the Foundation for Human Rights Initiative (Uganda), the Legal Resources Foundation (Zimbabwe) and the AJJF (a regional organization with headquarters in South Africa).
The partners meeting provided an opportune moment for reflection, consolidation, and strategic foresight. Partners shared insights and lessons from the exchange rounds that have happened, spotlighted the experiences of current fellows, and explored mechanisms for alumni engagement. The partners left the meeting with a sense of shared understanding of the implementation successes and gaps from previous phases of implementing the Norec project; and developed concrete proposals for establishing and sustaining an alumni network.
The meeting heard from the Norec Fellows distributed in East and Southern Africa from Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe and South Africa very inspiring stories of cross cultural, cross-jurisdictional learning.
Looking forward, the partners decided to focus the Norec project to seek to mobilise and equip young legal professionals to advance climate justice, protect vulnerable groups, and promote the rule of law in line with the SDGs, the Paris Agreement, and African human rights frameworks.
