PROTECTING FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS IN ELECTORAL DISPUTES: AFRICAN ELECTORAL JURISPRUDENCE NETWORK INAUGURAL DISCUSSIONS

This report provides a summary of proceedings at an African Electoral Jurisprudence Network inaugural discussion, co-hosted by Africa Judges and Jurists Forum (AJJF), International Commission of Jurists (ICJ), International
Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and the Southern African Judicial Education Institute (SAJEI). The discussion was held on 16 and 17 April 2019 at Southern Sun, O.R Tambo Hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa, bringing together
31 judges, representatives from the African Court, the Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa, election experts, and human rights lawyers (being 20 males and 11 females). The participants were drawn from nine countries across Africa namely; Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Zambia (Annex 1).
